Good Works

The great hindrance in spiritual life is that we will look for big things to do. Jesus tool a towel…and began to wash the disciples’ feet – Oswald Chambers

I love this quote & passage because of what it represents. Kind of like my “starfish” poem post. That is, in order to make a difference you don’t have to change the whole world or move a gigantic mountain. You start with helping one person, doing one good thing for someone and then it grows. The adage of ‘the road of a hundred miles begins with the first step’ applies here. Service isn’t about you and isn’t about initially or possibly ever changing the world. Instead it’s about making a difference to that one person. Who knows what that one person will go forward and do or life they will touch because you cared like Jesus.

Blessings!!

Church

I think that not going to Church is just as bad as coming up with an excuse as to why you don’t believe in Jesus. I do understand that there may be reasons from time to time that you can’t make it to Church, but to just say NO completely to going to Church is very unhealthy for your continued spiritual growth and faith.

I also believe in supporting your local Church with your prayers, presence, offerings & service. All these things should be an active part of your life and all are equally important. There aren’t any of the 4 that aren’t more important than the other.

If you are unhappy with your current Church, find a Church that you can relate to and understand and grow.  No point in going to a Church that you don’t understand what they are saying or that don’t offer spiritual growth for you as well.

Just going to Church isn’t enough either. You need to get involved. You need to join a Sunday School class and contribute in some service.  It’s sort of like putting your money where your mouth is. If you think that going to Church for 1 hour a week is going to change you because for the other 100+ hours of the week your being fed by the ‘world,’ your sorely mistaken.  You need to be fed and get active so you can express your faith. So you can discover your faith and so you can know what you believe in as well. You won’t get that out of just 1 hour of Church a week.

I understand there may be excuses you have to not going to Church, but hey, save them, your only hurting yourself!

I encourage you to be more active in the life of your Church starting today.

Blessings!

Serve

In Joshua 24:14-15 the word ‘Serve’ is stated 5 times.  If we know anything about scripture, we know that when there is a word or term that is expressed over and over, that it’s important and there is a theme going on.  We understand that in these 2 verses the word and theme here is ‘Serve’

So, what does it mean to serve?  Dictionary.com describes serve with many definitions and I’m picking a couple here:  to render assistance, be of use, help, to act as a servant, to render obedience or homage to(God), to provide with a regular or continuous supply of something.  These are some great definitions among others.  Probably the most likely aspect of our service to the Lord would be many varieties of these definitions.

Let’s remember to continue to give of ourselves in service to the Lord.  It doesn’t have to be that you pack up your family and household and become a missionary right now!  It doesn’t have to be so big in size or grandiose, it can be in the little things.  Jesus said, to whom much is given, much is required.  Jesus also said, I came to serve and not to be served.  If we listen to Jesus closely, I think we realize that it’s in the mundane and daily rituals that we see Him and we serve with a servants heart to give and not just receive.  To share openly with ALL that we have, including financial gifts, spiritual acts of service, random acts of kindness, a smile or even a hug.  In this we fulfill the service and we also fill the ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’

Go serve today and give of what God has blessed you with as we all have been given gifts to serve and give back.

top 10

Here’s a great TOP 10:

1) People are illogical, unreasonable and self centered.  Love and trust them anyway.

2)If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.  Do good anyway.

3)If you are successful you will win false friends and true enemies.  Succeed anyway.

4)The service you render today will be forgotten tomorrow.  Serve people anyway.

5)Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable.  Be honest and frank anyway.

6)The biggest person with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest person with the smallest ideas.  Think big anyway.

7)People pretend to love the “little people”, but sell their souls to the big people.  Fight for the little people anyway.

8)What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.  Build anyway.

9)People really need help, but may attack you if you do help.  Help people anyway.

10)Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.  Give the world the best you have anyway.
