Benediction

This Benediction has blessed me sincerely and I think about it often through the week. My Pastor states it at the end of every service and it comes from scripture(which is best!).

I wanted to define this term first for you out there who are not familiar. There were 5 total, but these 2 below suit best.

Benediction:

noun
1.

an utterance of good wishes.
2.

the form of blessing pronounced by an officiating minister, as at the close of divine service.
The scripture comes from the book of Jude which only has one chapter. Verses 24-25:
24 Now to the one who is able to keep you from falling, and to cause you to stand, rejoicing, without blemish before his glorious presence, 25 to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time, and now, and for all eternity. Amen.
Now isn’t that beautiful!  It fills me up with a Christ like love every time I hear it. May it be a true blessing to you as well as you ponder and meditate on these glorious words.
Blessings!

The Blessing is around the corner

I wanted to share this with you. It’s from a guy named Vance Letbetter and he sends these daily devotionals everyday. I think you should sign up for it here and get blessed like I am being blessed.

Today’s Scripture

Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat,
and you’ll get plenty of fish!” So they did, and they couldn’t draw in
the net because there were so many fish in it. John 21:6 NLT

Today’s Thought

This is another scripture that shows Jesus impacting the disciple’s
livelihood and well being. Shortly after the crucifixion, Jesus makes
several appearances to the disciples to prove that He had truly risen
from the grave and to give them hope. When Jesus first met the
disciples in Luke chapter 5 He gave them instruction after fishing all
night to go out again after catching nothing and fish deeper. When
they obeyed Him they caught so many fish that they decided to follow
Him and become disciples. They learned that day to listen to Jesus,
not to give up before the blessing and that Jesus is about abundance.
Now on this day three and a half years later Jesus continues to prove
that He is a faithful God of abundance and cares for all our needs.
Remember that just a few days prior to this day the disciples saw all
their dreams and hope seemingly die on the cross. Again they were
ready to give up. It is at that time that Jesus makes an appearance
and proves that He is who He says He is. Now once again the disciples
had been fishing all night and had nothing to show for it. No money to
pay the bills or feed the family. Jesus makes an appearance and
instructs them to fish on the other side of the boat. They obey not
knowing who He was! Perhaps the Holy Spirit on the inside told them to
trust and obey. When they raised the net it was so full again they
needed help getting it in. But it wasn’t until that moment when
their needs were met that they realized it had to be the Lord. Today
you need to know that Jesus cares about your needs and that He is a
God of abundance. He is ready to fill your nets ! Even if you have
been fishing all night and have come up empty handed you need to know
not to give up. Jesus is about to make an appearance. Like the
disciples they recognized that it was Jesus that helped them with
their financial needs, livelihood, peace and joy afterwards they
couldn’t wait to thank him and give Him praise.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, I give you honor and glory for being a faithful and
abundant God. I ask that You show me how not to give up right before
the blessing. Lord Jesus I declare Your word over my life and help me
to totally trust in You in every area of my life today and always. In
Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Food for thought

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others–Phillippians 2:3-4

In yesterday’s sermon, our Pastor Ray gave a great message for all to hear.  Amongst many points he outlined in his sermon, he challenged the congregation to bless someone everyday this week ahead.  As I thought about his challenge, I was reflecting personally on things that I do that do bless others.  I believe that for me, it is an intentional purpose I have as a believer to bless others often and daily, not just this week.  I am not going to get into the different things that I do daily or have done or plan on doing, but suffice it to say, I DO INTENTIONALLY.

So, my question to you is this: What are you doing to bless others?  Will you try this challenge for this week?  Will you not just think of your own needs but the needs of others?

“Father, give us the strength to be a blessing to others as you are always a blessing to us your children.  In your name, Amen.”

Suffering

8 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”  – Job 1:8-10

I was led by the Holy Spirit to write on the subject of suffering and on why ‘bad things happen to good people.’  I was recently questioned by a friend about it and now this article has brought it to light once more.  Read the article here.  This man’s personal story is powerful and hits home.

You must read the entire book of Job to really understand what goes on.  It’s a good read, but will take a good sitting to get through it.  Ultimately, everyone in Job’s life turns on him.  He is plagued and cursed it seems by God(not true) but seems that way to us humans.  He loses his whole family and money and everything that matters to him, yet he is still found blameless in God’s sight.  He even says, “Naked I come from my mother’s womb and naked I shall return, Blessed be the name of the Lord!”  Even his own wife says, curse God and die!  God ultimately blesses Job, 10 and a 100 fold with more than he ever had.  OK, so this won’t happen to everyone in both extremes that the book takes you in(whether in curses or pain or in blessings-spiritual/physical/monetary)

To make things abundantly clear, SIN is in this world and will ever be until Jesus returns from Heaven, PERIOD!

What does that mean for you and me?  Well, my friends, we will cry, hurt, feel pain and grief and strife and ultimately physically die one day.  Are you shocked and surprised yet?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.  So now your asking, get to your point…what are you saying Sam???

Good question?!?!  OK, Job suffered and so will we.  Good things happen to bad people too!  Shocked again?  I didn’t think so.  But your asking, if good things happen to bad people, then what’s the difference if bad things happen to good people?  Great question again.  The fact is, the sun and the rain fall on both the good and the bad correct?  Same with blessings and curses.  If your blessed monetarily, for example, and you have a family member that is bad, but needs help financially, would you help them?  Maybe yes or maybe no, but the option is there for you to bless and thus this person could receive some of your blessings.  Same way when say, like the earthquake in Haiti hit, did it strike the believer and non-believer alike?  Of course it did, does that mean that the believer shouldn’t experience the struggle that the non-believer did just because they are a believer?  Didn’t think so.  So do bad things happen to good people?  Yes!

Are we all human and share in this world the natural disasters or the break-down of our bodies?  Yes!  My ex-wife got cancer at 29!!  29!!!  Is that fair?  Is that right?  She is a believer, so does that exclude her from the ‘bad things?’ NOPE!  Did I suffer through it with her?  Yes.

There are a million reasons for things that happen and there is no perfect answer to why these things happen, fact!  They do happen though and it’s our job to support, pray, help, guide and love through it!  I have had my share of problems in my life, believe me!!!  But through it all, God is good and has always been there for me, even when I didn’t know it or realize it!

Horrible things happen to all kinds of people, good and bad alike.  That’s the way it is. The GOOD NEWS and question is this.  When you die, where are you going?  Do you believe in Jesus?  We are all gonna die one day sooner or later and our souls will need a place to live.

I’m sorry if you have experienced tragedy.  I’m sorry if a Christian has wronged you in the past.  Please don’t let life’s troubles stop you from believing in a Father that truly loves you, the God of all comfort, who wants a special relationship with you and who knows everything about you and a Father who welcomes you into His home.

Blessings!

ME

In an era of ‘ME’ that our modern-day society is in, there are some serious consequences that result…

We place actors and sports figures up on a pedestal and then get disappointed when they act childish or do stupid things. Who’s to blame?

Does a million dollar salary that an actor/actress/professional sports player give them more credibility to answer questions about current society topics or address their views or opinions on what they think is right, even though they don’t have a college degree versus someone who does have a college degree and suggests proper answers to these questions? i.e. Tom Cruise on postpartum depression, yet he has barely a high school degree.

Do our children coming of age have the right to deserve things in life that we have struggled to attain?

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well – Matthew 6:33

The context that the scripture above comes from is in regards to worrying.  It’s also addressing the fact that if we do what God wants us to do, and that is to feed to the poor, give selflessly, attend to the widow and visit the imprisoned.  To seek the right and not the bad.  To do good and not evil.  To not think yourself better than others.  If we have this mindset, we will be blessed and have plenty and not be in want.

I know I am not in want for anything.  I know that my God has blessed me tremendously and that I have nothing to complain about.  That I have more than anyone can ask for.  Not because I’m perfect or good or right at all or at any given time, but because He is good!  I believe all receive blessings, I just realize where they come from.

Our society and modern-day isn’t much different than it was 2000 years ago, we just have better technology.  We are still a world in need of a savior.  We are still helplessly lost in our sin and mortality.  We are constantly giving into our own desires of du’jour.

I have scattered over a lot of thoughts and topics during this post, but I guess I wanted to say that it’s not about Me, but about God and that He wants the best for us even when we don’t know what that is or we think we know what that is.

Have a blessed day!

help me

Father I pray that you will help me in my path today and everyday as I go through this life.  I am pushed on every side by so many things that can be distracting.  I need you to guide me and direct me so that I choose what is right and not what is temporal.  I life up all my worries and concerns to you today, like every day, and all the more today.  Make my spirit sensitive to you and to what you would have me do.  Help me be a blessing to others as you are to me for this life is not about me.  Help me Lord today.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The fruit of the spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self Control.  Against such things there is no law.   Galatians 5:22,23

is it good to give?

Scripture says this among many other verses in the Bible, “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing,
but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
”  Proverbs 28:27

For me, this verse tells me how important it is to give and give back, not just out of your wealth, but from your heart and from your hands.

In another verse just before this one scripture states this, ” A stingy man is eager to get rich
and is unaware that poverty awaits him
.”  Proverbs 28:22

WOW!!  What knowledge, and wisdom that come from our Powerful(Omnipotent), all knowing(Omniscient) Father!!

I know that writing checks are easy and important, but let’s also give with our time and energy.

Of course and more importantly is this, to heed our Father’s warning’s is very important and as I read this, I realize how important it is to give as He tells us to.

Closed fists can’t give anything.  Open hands give all!!!
