The Chisel

I am blown away at this video.  This powerful video from the skit guys is mind blowing and uplifting!  You must watch this and see how powerful it is for you.  Tell me what you think about it?

Very introspective as to what ALL of us deal with.

God, help me to let go and let you.  Help me to say Yes to you and NO to self.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

dooms day?

I enjoy reading these and sharing them with y’all!

It’s The End! Never mind.

Go Back to What You were Doing.

Anxiety added to the chill of the winter of 999 AD as the new millennium drew near. Prophecies and superstition led to the widely held belief that the world was going to end on 1/1/1000.  As doomsday approached, the “end-time epidemic” broke out. That is when the usual course of everyday life detours into primal spiritual instincts.  Christian behavior back then is noteworthy.

Men began confessing their sins and infidelities. Churches were overflowing.
People began forgiving debts they were owed. Many inmates were freed from prison, yet some refused to leave desiring to remain and make amends for their crimes before the end. Enemies were reconciled. Stores gave away food, and many businesses refused to accept payment for their merchandise. (One might believe
that there had been a widespread outbreak of Christianity.)

Finally “the dreaded” night arrived. (Jesus was about to return!?!) On December 31st, 999 AD, a standing-room-only crowd gathered for mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, but no one stood, because everyone was on their knees! When the clock struck midnight, there was silence…………….then………….

……..sounds of men and women weeping and laughing in relief. (“We didn’t die!“) Husbands embraced their wives. Friends gave each other the “kiss of peace”.
The clock kept moving. The world didn’t end.

And then…and then…life soon returned to normal. Stores stopped giving away merchandise. Prisoners that had been set free, were hunted down and thrown back in jail. People remembered their debts and demanded re-payment. Reconciled relationships were reconsidered. And the churches emptied.

This “before and after” behavior says something we already know…
Almost everyone acts righteous, when they think they are about to die“. If so, then the normal state of most people is denial & unrighteousness. They are in denial about the fact that they are only a breath away from facing the Lord, and unrighteous because they aren’t doing “what they know is right” on a regular basis.

But acting like you are in right standing with the Lord, (“righteous”) doesn’t make you righteous. Righteousness comes from faith in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ and is shown by obedience to Him. The Christians of 999 did not obey in faith, but from fear. Why were they afraid? Because on some level, they believed judgment awaited them. Otherwise they would have been facing the possible return of the Lord and the end of the world with a sense of divine peace.

(I John 4:17, 18) By this love is perfected in us that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

The 999 AD story is a perfect example of what these two scriptures mean. When we come to know and believe the love the Father has for us, we will have perfect confidence and peace about Judgment Day. We only fear when we believe there is going to be punishment.

It is not the Lord’s will for us to base our relationship with Him on fear, doing what is right only because we fear we will be punished if we don’t. Rather, He desires that we fellowship with Him based on the knowledge of the great love He has for us, and that we do what is right (His will), because we love Him, and because those are the acts of His children, who we are!

missing the gospel

The term Gospel means “Good News”  I always repeated this phrase to my Sunday School kids I taught at Church.  I love the fact that sharing the Gospel to a lost world means that your sharing “Good News

In a recent news article there is a young lady that is still in college here in the states and decided to go to Iran to visit family and whilst she is there, to write a report on the lack of women’s rights in that country.  She was found out by the authorities and was subsequently arrested by the police in a traffic stop.  She is currently sequestered and unfortunately, it’s going on 10+ days she has been held in captivity without a means for release.  Let’s pray she is freed soon and can share her experience with the world.  She is not the only one in Iran who has been treated unfairly this way, it’s been going on for decades!  In recent years has the news of government oppression towards women and the fact that anyone who speaks against the government has been coming to light.

You can find that anywhere in the world where the Bible, Jesus and Christians are either oppressed, outlawed or punished/imprisoned, you will find a lack of Freedom.  Iran is such a state.  As well as many other countries in the world as well.  Saudi Arabia, China and other countries as well.  Even though the perception of freedom is there, the lack of religious freedom is oppression of the worst kind.

My point is: where Jesus is not found, you will find serious tyranny and oppression!  Where the Bible is outlawed you will see Government’s trying to control the people.  Why is that?  I believe that the Bible opens eyes to freedom!  I believe that truths throughout scripture open hearts and minds to things that were not thought of or believed in or even conceived.  I believe Jesus brings fear to those who oppose Him.  Even the demons shudder!

Let’s pray for freedom, religious REAL freedom, comes to Iran and to the rest of the countries around the world.  Let’s keep these countries and people in our prayers.  The Bible League has an excellent ministry to spread the Gospel and Bibles to regions where persecution is rampant.  You can read here about the places around the world specifically.

the power of prayer

This is a really funny joke, that can be indicative of some churches today, sadly:

In a small Texas town, (Mt. Vernon) Drummond’s bar began construction on a new building to increase their business.

With petitions and prayers, the local Baptist church started a campaign to block the bar from opening .

Work progressed right up until the week before opening, when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.

The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means.

The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building’s demise in its reply to the court.

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork.

At the hearing he commented, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork,

we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not.

Have a Wonderful Day!

all have sinned

I was speaking to a guy here at work today, and we have had some conversations of church and family and life in the past.  It seems that he is a believer.  This morning when we were speaking he took the Lord’s name in vain by saying the 2 words that make my soul quiver.  For me, that is the epitome of anti-God and the 2 words that should Never ever be uttered from a believer’s mouth…ever!

So, I continued and closed our conversation, but never mentioned it to him.  Not sure how to say anything or bring it up to him, but the concern is…are you really a believer.  I posted about this some time ago on saying those 2 words here.

What saddens me is that those words are used in everyday language now and it disgusts me and makes me sad that we as a nation are taking His name in vain and not taking it holy as it should be.  TV/Movies are to blame partially for this, I believe, as it is almost everywhere and even on regular local TV.  The gradual move to secularism and tolerance(I posted about this too) seems to be on it’s continual incline without a thought of or to morality.

I guess the “If it feels good it must be OK and right and justified” generation is being exploited everywhere as well.  If it feels right then you must accept what I think because i feel it.  Well feelings come and go and just because you think it’s OK doesn’t mean it’s ‘right’ or ‘good.’  Just like the package of hot dogs I bought this weekend made by Hebrew Nation state as their motto “We answer to a higher Authority”  Well, I do to and every word, act and deed will be looked upon by God Almighty and judged.

“Every knee will bow and tongue confess that Jesus is Lord and all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

I am not perfect and I know that we all sin, but there are some things I will not do and refuse to do as a believer, including taking His name in vain or murder or some other things that won’t happen.  Control of self is definately important as taking responsibility over our actions is.

in a land of milk and honey

What is your faith and hope and trust in?  Is it money or an inanimate object that money can purchase?  I, along with many of you, have found that in these times of financial trouble, are you finding yourself asking similar questions?  Your 401(k) is going down the tubes and your investments are doing the same.  Are you worried?  Where is your hope and faith and trust placed currently?  If you are bothered and concerned about our economy, ask yourself why?  If you worried that God won’t take care of you?  Are you worried that you will have no money and lose everything?

I’m focused on God and the promises he makes to me.  That he will provide and bless as I continue to be faithful to Him and place my hope, trust and faith in Him, not monetary or inanimate objects.  I will continue to do that in the good and bad times, for where my treasure is there my heart will be also.

I am focused on my heavenly dwelling and the eventual location of my eternity, not my temporary concerns and the short life that I will live here on earth.  I will enjoy this day as long as it is called today, but I’m not worried about dying or where my final resting place will be because I know in whom I hope and trust-Jesus and His promises to all of us…his children.

where is your eternity going to be spent?

what’s going on in our country?

I just read an article about some clarification on “Maryland Textbooks on Islamic Teachings Dumbed Down”

This really is firing me up.  Our country is fighting any type of Christianity viewpoints to show up in schools across the nation and take up a viewpoint that there is a God and that creation could possibly be an option other than a ‘big bang or evolution’ story, among others.  Yet, an entire state has decided that they need to teach their children in junior high and high school what a jihad is or isn’t?  That understanding of Islam needs to be taught in order to understand tolerance or acceptance of a group that has personally drug our flag on their streets and burned it for decades across countries all over the world.  That explosions to our embassy’s and tower’s of buildings have been demolished and exploded into by whom?  By some passive group of people that think it’s OK for these things to occur?  Islam itself has caused itself to be defamed across the world.  and were going to teach our kids that it’s OK and that jihad isn’t really a way of declaring war in Arabic, but more of a subtle viewpoint that a few radicals have decided to use?  How do you water that down???

I don’t get the logic or understanding behind this?  Why don’t we just get some more viewpoints on other religions as well since were at a good point in time to share about other religions?  Let’s get some Buddhism and Hinduism as well?  Why just Islam?  Political Correctness is out of control.  When PC begins to invade our schools rather than work places, there is a big problem starting to happen.  When schools start shoving this down our throats as a class that must be taken, there is a problem.  When a religious group is able to force the hand of law makers to add classes just for a special religious group, not as an elective, but as a must, we have a problem.

It seems that legislature has given into pro-Islamic groups in the area and declared for our children that this must be taught to them.  I don’t know about you, but If I was in Maryland and had children in public schools, I would pull them out and send them to a private school or home school them.  I would also start bombarding the legislature in Maryland with emails and letters with disdain over this unruly new position that has entered into our schools and our homes.

Make your voice heard by contacting the Montgomery county, Maryland website here and make your voice heard and known by all that this is an injustice that should not be taught by our schools, period!

When Imams come forward across the world and start saying NO to jihad’s and other violence that continues to pervade the Islamic culture, then can we start saying that there might be hope.  We have yet to see this across our world.  But, the truth is, that the Koran is not a very peaceful book.  One half of it says to live a worthy life with all that is right and then there is a second half to the book that goes into infidel’s and how those who are unbelieving should not be allowed to live.  There is no other major religion in the world that promotes violence this way.  I know this because I have grown up in the culture and have lived a short life of believing in Islam.  There are also many more radical groups that get deeper into the religious cult of Islam.  There is additions to the Koran that exist, including one that believes in Ali, who is the husband of one of Muhammad’s daughters.  He was very extreme in his views on the world and has more explicit things to say about infidel’s and how they should be treated.  This is a very shortened version of the Koran, but is needed to be expressed this way due to the length of the current blog.

We have many countries that are all over the world that DON’T allow religious freedom.  These countries are oppressors of truth and dictate to their people what should be said and done and believe.  This is a travesty!  These countries include ally Saudi Arabia, where you can not visit as a tourist, but only by way of business reasons or religious reasons(of course that religion is Islam and no other).  There is Iran, who is a big oil producer in the world, and continues to proclaim condemnation upon the United States and Israel and I’m sure anyone else that gets in their way and disagrees with them.  We still have communist China that works on keeping a state controlled church, but disallows people to gather in a personal setting to speak on their views of Christianity.  Persecution is very evident across China as well, jail terms and death to those who break the law(religious aspects of it, not for people that commit murder or the like, but break the religious law).

There is a great website that speaks on persecution of the Church, stories of Martyrs of modern day and countries that are persecuting the church as a whole here.  There is also a great book by DC Talk that is called “Jesus Freaks” and I highly recommend getting a copy of it and reading these stories of people that have died for their faith in Jesus Christ and not because they blew themselves up with explosive devices, but because they believed in Jesus and were burned, murdered or a number of other ways that the oppressors felt they needed to kill them.

You alone have the power to make a change, DO IT!

April 23, 2008

So, all we have been hearing about is how hot the earth is getting and the whole ‘global warming’ thing.  Well, on foxnews this am, I was reading a very interesting article about how one scientist has been studying our planet and found that our earth has gotten colder in the past year and that the earth is at the 1930’s level of temperature.

Is anyone confused or is it just me?  How do we believe in what anyone says in the scientific community?  Why are there soooo many schools of thought on how hot the earth is getting or how cold the earth is getting?  Why isn’t there any TRUTH out there that is Factual or is it a political agenda for people to contort the truth?  Is there global warming or isnt’ there?  there can’t be 2 Truths!!!

One fact is, that science is continually evolving and thus there can’t be true hard facts.  Another fact is, there are basic fundamental science truths that are certain, i.e. laws of motion(newton), laws of physics, periodic table of elements.

But, when it comes to something that is truly profound, there seems to still be doubters out there.  The fact that Jesus walked this earth is a foregone conclusion of truth…but there are still doubters(not many of you left thankfully)  Then there is the truths about who Jesus says He is.  “I and the Father are one”  John 10:30 and “The Father is in me and I in the Father”  John 10:38

Now given the previous statement Jesus made about himself. there can be only 2 conclusions.  He is either who He says He is(the Truth) or He is a nutjob(crazy) and has totally lost his mind.  Your answer will be an everlasting one.  What say YOU?  You can’t say He was a good person and not believe in whom He says He is.  As C.S. Lewis stated, “That option wasn’t open”

“I am the Way and the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but by me”  John 14:6

January 7, 2008

Reading posts across many discussion boards, I find that everyone has a thought an opinion and a voice.  I would definitely agree to that.  I do as well, thus this blog, right.  I want to discuss with you on this whole unbelief thing.  Why is it that you are an atheist?  Why don’t you believe?

The biggest turn off to Christianity…is Christians themselves.  I agree.  I am sorry for that.

The only thing that I have to say to that is this…I’m NOT perfect.

That is my whole basis for argument.  That is why I need Jesus.  Because He is perfect and I’m not.  That’s why I go to church.  Because I’m sick and in need of a hospital and church is where I go to get better.  To share my issues, my life, my heart.  To be there for others who are in need of help, be it an ear to listen, someone to pray for others or to just talk.  To build friendships, life long relationships and fellowship.  The biggest reason I go to church though, is to draw closer to my King and Savior Jesus.  To learn more about Him.  To pray to Him.  To Love Him more.  To be like Him more.

Forgiveness, Love, Mercy and Faith are all fundamental seeds in the Christian faith.  The fact that we as Christians lose sight of those things are wrong, but part of the imperfectness that we ALL are as humans.  Flawed.  And again the need for Christ, who calls us to Himself because He knows all our flaws and our imperfections and says “I love you just the way you are anyway.”  Wow, are the words I used when I accepted Christ almost 10 years ago.  You mean that He accepts me even though I’ve done horrible and nasty and mean things in my past, that He will accept me anyway.  Jesus says yes.  “Come unto me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”  Matthew 11:28

Once you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior(Romans 10:9-10) you will receive the Holy Spirit which will help you and guide you in life through it’s many trials and tribulations.

I pray that you will reach out and accept this offering that Christ has given unto you.  That you will find a place in your heart to forgive the person or even a Christian that has wronged you and realize that your not perfect just like the Christian person isn’t perfect as well.  It only takes a mustard seed of faith to believe.  I pray that you give yourself this wonderful gift of life, because it is short.  Where will you spend eternity?  Will one persons harsh words or actions sway you from a life eternal?  It hasn’t for me either.
