proverbs 31

In a conversation recently,  a friend of mine told me that there isn’t anymore proverbs 31 women out there.  Do you all agree with that?  Read Proverbs 31 and then tell me your thoughts on this…I’m very curious.  Let me clarify that the quote was more like, “there aren’t any pvbs 31 women that do all the things that are stated in there, but do some of the things stated in pvbs 31.”

I have officially completed my reading of the Book of Proverbs as well.  It was a very slow, morning devotional read for me and I enjoyed it.  This is about the 10th time I have read it thoroughly as well.

Have a Great Day, especially if your off work today enjoying this President’s Day Holiday.(I am working 😦 )

don’t work too hard

In today’s society in America, there seems to be a need to work more hours and get multiple jobs.  But, the question is for what?  Why?  What is the reason, purpose or desire for this?

The answer typically is, to afford a more expensive lifestyle, to pay for the things that are out of your ‘means’ and believe the lies we all see on TV ad commercials!!! or the proverbial keeping up with the Jones’

Could it be, that we all have bought into this fraudulent lie that we all need to have the newest cars, the best homes and most expensive clothes?

Scripture tells us this, “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint”  Proverbs 23:4

My interpretation of this verse is like don’t kill yourself to get rich or have multiple jobs to keep paying bills for things you can’t afford.  Why did you buy them in the first place?

I also think that we should test our motives and find out why we’re trying to get rich.  Why do you want to get rich?  Are you jealous of others?  Are you coveting your neighbors things and think you deserve those things too?

I am not saying that God doesn’t like us to be rich.  I am focusing more on the ‘wear yourself out’ part.  Ultimately, in the BIG picture of things(I’m a Big picture guy), when your lying on your death bed…are you thinking about how much more money you could have made or wishing you bought another car or regretting that you didn’t spend enough hours in the office???  I think Not and hope Not.

Life is more than a job or getting rich or buying things.  I believe that the best things in life are free.      Jesus, The Ocean, Love, Children, Trees/Foliage, Health and Happiness.

too much talk

I love the book of Proverbs.  It’s definitely one of my favorite books in the scriptures.  There is so much knowledge and tons of nuggets of wisdom in every verse.  Right now I’m in Proverbs 20 and there is a lot of daily life activities that I come across that help me be on guard for and people to be leery of.  Verse 19 states “A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much.”

I know people that are like this and so do you.  First, it’s the gossip.  I know it’s easy to talk about others, I think we all do it.  Unfortunately, it’s not right.  Some folks enjoy gossipping wayy too much and love to talk about everyone and anyone.  These are the people that will talk about you behind your back when your not around.  I think that there are others who try to avoid this type of talk, but on occasion do talk about people, but don’t make it a habit or a practice and these people can keep secrets.  I would say I fall in the latter of these 2.  There are exceptions to everything, but to say that you never talk about anyone ever would mean that your perfect and I know that no one is.  So, let’s clean up that way we speak about people, especially when they are not around and even ask for their forgiveness for things we may have said about them when they were not around.

The Second part of this verse is about a person who loves to talk, just to hear themselves talk.  We all know people like this as well.  These folks drive me nuts!!!  I don’t mind people talking and sharing their hearts, minds or ideas.  But, when they just talk on and on and on, even when no one is listening or paying attention…there is definitely something wrong with that.  I don’t have any close friends that are like this and I try to stay distant from people that are like this for many a reason, especially because scripture says so.

In closing, read more of the Book of Proverbs to gain more knowledge of things to be wiser about and talkers to avoid.

I read a great verse today from the book of Proverbs 20:13 ” Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;
stay awake and you will have food to spare.”

What I thought about was how much I do enjoy sleep personally, but dont’ sleep as much as I did when I was younger.  I think this is a good verse to remember to share with our friends and families.  It reminds us that sleep can go right along with laziness and then you will become poor in many ways, health wise, financially, spiritually and even mentally.

Let’s get the sleep we need, but don’t over do it, I believe is the focus here.
