Great Christian Video

This guy JJ Worthen came to our Church this previous Sunday and he was so good.  I had to post his video of what he played for us that is on youtube.

I hope you enjoy it. All music is by him with no other instruments or people helping him at all. Truly amazing!

powerful lyrics

One of the most influential artist’s in recent times wrote this song below that I think is powerful and I wanted to share it.  It’s all about love!

Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On Lyrics

Mother, mother
There’s too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There’s far too many of you dying
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today – Ya

Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don’t punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what’s going on
What’s going on
Ya, what’s going on
Ah, what’s going on

In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on

Father, father, everybody thinks we’re wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don’t punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What’s going on
Ya, what’s going on
Tell me what’s going on
I’ll tell you what’s going on – Uh

I went to the concert to see them last night.  They played at the House of Blues(HOB)  TOO FUN!  I went with my big sister and we had a great time, ate dinner beforehand and then headed up to the third floor where the venue was.  The band played great.  They have a fairly new album out and played a couple tracks of that.  They also played the ever popular “Red, Red Wine” about half way through the show.  They also played “Here I am baby” early in the set and then closed out with a final stage call with “Fools Rush In” a classic remake originally performed by Elvis.

So, all day long today I have been singing their songs in my head and jamming along.  It was so cool to be there and enjoy the evening and my sis had a great time too!

My favorite band of all time, I must say.  Bono, the eccentric lead singer, is fabulous in many ways.  His voice is unmistakable and the music is unmatched!

‘I still haven’t found what I’m looking for’ is a U2 classic and a must own of the U2 albums IS The Joshua Tree.  They continue to evolve as a band and keep getting better if you can believe it.   Some bands tend to fizzle and/or degrade in quality of music just to keep up appearance and loss of name recognition in pop culture, but not U2.

U2 has been rocking since early 80’s and are currently working on another album now.  That’s 3 decades strong and with no sign of letting up either.  The entire band is still together from day one to now, and that is a feet in itself these days.

They have had umpteen #1 singles, played in Superbowl half-time shows, played in almost every country around the world live in concert, have made a single for a #1 movie, made millions and all for the love of the music.

Bono, has used his influence to bring light to many illnesses and diseases around the world, including Aids, in which he is very active in bringing awareness to.  I really like him and thank that in and out of the spotlight he is a consummate professional.  His glasses are great as well.

I have seen them twice, but it has been over a decade since I have seen them last.  The unfortunate part now is that they have such a HUGE following, that ticket prices are so expensive and hard to afford.  They were here last year and nose bleed prices to see them were $600 each!  YIKES!  Wayyy too much for me to pay for!

So many albums and hit songs, even songs that aren’t as famous are still great!  I know you love them as much as I do or at least know some of their music to at least agree on the popular songs that you have heard are great.

Their Protestant roots from Ireland and Political views are very evident in their words and music and I think that it hits a chord in all of us, one way or another.  I really like and agree with most of what they say, but hey no one is perfect either right?

I love you U2!!

more mercy me

At the concert last Friday night Mercy Me mentioned that they have a funny ‘cover tunes’ aspect on their website.  So of course I had to check it out.  This one I found they did on Micheal Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ song from the 80’s, it’s real funny yet good at the same time.  Here it is for you all below! NJOY!  Here is a link to their website as well with more funny covers you can find on the BLOG area of the page.

My wifey and I went and saw Mercy Me last night at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion.  Natalie Grant, The Afters and Addison Road all opened up for them, but none came close to being as good as Mercy Me IS!

I was singing song after song with them and raising my heads up high and enjoying every minute of it.  What a blast I had listening to truly one of the best bands on the Christian scene today.  The lead singer has a voice that you can hear from a mile away, with such control and able to hit the high notes as well as the low.  It’s really a true pleasure to see them again and appreciate the music they play and for me it never gets old…even the “I can only imagine” song, after you know you have heard it a thousand times, it still sounds wonderful.  Of course they played their big hit right now last, after a curtain call, “God with us”

If you get a chance to see them come to your city, please do so, you will Not regret it.

mercy me

I have to post about this song I have been listening to on KSBJ.  It’s a fairly new song by Mercy Me called “Immanuel(God with us)”  It’s such a beautiful song and I relate to it so much because of the words that are spoken and the music is intoxicating.  The main verse goes like this:

“All that is within me cries for you O Lord be glorified, Immanuel, God with us.  My heart sings a brand new song, my debt is paid, my chains are gone, Immanuel, God with us”

Praise God, is all I can say when I hear this song.  Imagine: I’m in the car, my right hand is raised, I’m singing the song and tears are falling from my eyes.  How Beautiful this song is.

The reason I’m touched so much by the song and relate to it is because I know what kind of a man I used to be and how horrible I was and how I am a changed man now because of Jesus and what He did, has done and continues to do in me.  Praise you Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

my latest cd picks

I recently purchased a couple of Cd’s that I will highly recommend to you.  I first purchased Christ Tomlin’s latest CD(which happens to be a couple years old now)”See the Morning”  The music is inspiring and deep.  The words and sounds are capturing.  A few of them are sung in Sunday morning contemporary services all over the country too.  You will not be disappointed in this pickup.

The second CD I recommend is The Swift’s latest CD “Singing Back to You.”  It’s also a couple years old, but very good.  It includes the song “nothing but the blood”, which I know you’ve heard before.  I am sooo moved by this song, that depending on my mood, I find tears in my eyes because of the beauty of the song.

So, these are my latest CD purchases that I know you will love.  Now typically I download songs from iTunes, but when it comes to Christian music, I find myself buying the Cd’s instead.  Not sure why really, just think it’s supporting the Christian music industry and also I might not buy the whole CD from iTunes, but just a few songs that I already know and not the whole album.

There you go, support the music, enjoy your Friday and God Bless.

What’s up y’all?  It’s a beautiful Saturday here in Htown and I went for a short stroll to my local Best Buy.  I prefer this store to others, but not sure why…it just feels good to go to a place that you like and thus tend to frequent which is another human condition(we do what we are comfortable with).

So, I was perusing the music section of the store and went to the small area of Christian contemporary music section.  Anyway, I was looking at all the cool bands that are out now and man has Christian music really exploded and taken off…I’m so proud!!  So, I was torn between 2 Cd’s I wanted to purchase but didn’t want to go over a $25 budget that I set for myself(because of a gift card I had).  One was the Robbie Seay band CD and the other was the WOW 2008 edition CD(which has songs from different Christian artists)  The WOW CD was $19.99 and I thought overpriced.  So, I went with the Robbie Seay CD and really glad I did.  This is the band’s second CD that they have come out with and let me tell you what, it Rocks!  You need to pick it up.

So, about Robbie Seay.  It’s too funny and such a small world.  Back in ’98 I was a first year Christian and some friends from my church were going to this thing called ‘Metro.’  It was a singles, 20 something usually, gathering of Christians at Houston’s First Baptist Church.  It happened every Monday of the week.  They would be praise and worship music, then a short lesson by a really cool speaker and then close with the same band.  So, guess who was singing in the praise and worship band?  Yep you guessed it, Robbie Seay!  How cool is that!  Here we are almost 10 years later and he is now making music for a label.  I’m so proud!!!  Also, Watermark’s Christy Nockels was also the other singer there with Robbie and so was steven and star smith playing too(whom used to be our praise and worship leaders at Foundry UMC).

So, just thought to share this cool stuff about how life brings things around and how small the world really is.  Go buy some Cd’s and some cool Christian music because there is plenty of good stuff out there.

 ciao for now!
