Archive for ‘give’

You know growing up we were babied and loved by our parents and family. We needed our family to support us because we couldn’t fend for ourselves. Every aspect of our lives was governed by what our family provided for us. So we relied on our family to provide for us and we were one minded, thinking only about ourselves and what we will get next, etc.(especially around our birthdays and holidays)

We then come of age to get a job or continue our education and begin to support and take care of ourselves. We are still selfish and thinking with a one tracked mind. The longer we move into our 20’s and even 30’s and have never been married or had children, the harder it becomes to understand what it is not to be selfish, because again, we are only concerned with our own needs.

There is a point then when we reach an area of giving back and not allowing ourselves to be all caught up in what we are doing, who we are with or what our next meal we are going to consume is. I must say that there ‘should be’ this point in everyone’s life, although I know it’s not always true.

The point I am trying to make here is that this life is not all about you and the proverbial “ME, ME, ME!” chant.  It’s about opening your hand to share, It’s about not hoarding, it’s about giving of your time to great causes, it’s about giving of yourself to others without expectation, it’s about listening when no one else will listen or even speaking up when no one will.

I find that for me, giving back makes all the difference in the world, to that one person’s life, that I know I had an effect on because I decided to give, unselfishly and unexpectedly.

Relationships, in the dating/married aspect, helps you better understand what it’s like to realize the needs of another and not just your own. Pets, in all forms, also help you understand that as well. For those who neglect those relationships, there definitely can be some moments of selfishness that cause that neglect. Choosing to do something you want to do more than choosing or giving thought to what your partner wanted or even caring about it, for example.

I know my dad has had relationship issues all of his life. I know that he has always loved me, but when it came to his partners, there were a lot of selfish times and moments that caused the demise to both of his failed marriages and umpteen relationships since. That’s been his choice, cognizant or otherwise, that he has made those choices. This was just a real life example of the decision to be selfish, in my opinion, that has caused those marriage failures.

My desire for this post is really to get the message out of how important it is to give selflessly and to better understand the scripture below that speaks to us not loving this world. I believe that giving back of ourselves helps make a better world and gives us all a better appreciation for the many blessings that are in our lives and opens our eyes to the world around us and how much need there truly is all around us. Which ultimately, without knowing it, will make you a less selfish person.

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God – James 4:4

Food for thought

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others–Phillippians 2:3-4

In yesterday’s sermon, our Pastor Ray gave a great message for all to hear.  Amongst many points he outlined in his sermon, he challenged the congregation to bless someone everyday this week ahead.  As I thought about his challenge, I was reflecting personally on things that I do that do bless others.  I believe that for me, it is an intentional purpose I have as a believer to bless others often and daily, not just this week.  I am not going to get into the different things that I do daily or have done or plan on doing, but suffice it to say, I DO INTENTIONALLY.

So, my question to you is this: What are you doing to bless others?  Will you try this challenge for this week?  Will you not just think of your own needs but the needs of others?

“Father, give us the strength to be a blessing to others as you are always a blessing to us your children.  In your name, Amen.”

is it good to give?

Scripture says this among many other verses in the Bible, “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing,
but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
”  Proverbs 28:27

For me, this verse tells me how important it is to give and give back, not just out of your wealth, but from your heart and from your hands.

In another verse just before this one scripture states this, ” A stingy man is eager to get rich
and is unaware that poverty awaits him
.”  Proverbs 28:22

WOW!!  What knowledge, and wisdom that come from our Powerful(Omnipotent), all knowing(Omniscient) Father!!

I know that writing checks are easy and important, but let’s also give with our time and energy.

Of course and more importantly is this, to heed our Father’s warning’s is very important and as I read this, I realize how important it is to give as He tells us to.

Closed fists can’t give anything.  Open hands give all!!!

So, yes, I am guilty of watching American Idol during the week.  Forgive me!  So, anyway, I want to share with you an awesome program that requires OUR Action.  I’ve linked it on my SITE links on the right hand side, called ONE.  There are a number of cooperative non-profit organizations that are within that link as well, including Habitat for Humanity, World Vision and many others(I have blogged about these before)  Let’s work together to give our time, money and resources back to our community.  Life is not all about us, but about others…right?  Let’s work as a body and one small world community to help those who are less fortunate than us.  Let’s give back and do what Christ has asked us to do, give.

In the words of my church when I became a member is to give of my prayers, presence, offerings and service.  Let’s not love in word and thought, but also in deed.

blessings be upon each of you.

You can never out give God!

Have you ever served the Lord before in any capacity?  Have you ever noticed that no matter the sacrifice you gave or how hard it was or even how simple it was, that you were blessed in return 10 fold?  That’s how I feel everytime I do something for God.  No matter how hard and how much He always will give back.  He will always provide and supply as well.

He equips the called, not calls the equipped.   Have you heard that one before too?  Well, it’s true.  Throughout scripture, you see how man looks on the outside of man, but God looks upon the heart and the inside of man.  He knows better than we do about EVERYTHING!!

So the next time your doing something for the Lord and find yourself grumbling and having a hard time(me included), just remember the blessing that’s going to come from it and out of it.  Remember that you reap what you sow and just remind yourself that “You can never out give God!”    Amen!
