Oswald Chambers

I have been following this man’s writings since I became a Christian. “My Utmost for His highest” book has been a personal blessing to me for years! I highly recommend you pick this book up and read it as a great daily devotional.

More recently I have been receiving a daily devotional from his email distribution company that shares his insights into being a christian today and what that means. These devotionals have been inspiring and very challenging. I recommend them also.

I read his bio on wikipedia many years ago and have been inspired personally from his writings on the Christian walk. I think it behooves  you to research him yourself there as well. For me, he’s another great ‘Hero of the Faith‘ that has gone before me and fought the good fight! He has left a great legacy and something to attain to.

Link to his Bio and Daily Devotional page to sign up.

May his writings be a blessing to you as well.

Christianity today….

Where to start….

I have been having conversations with ‘Christians’ over the last few years and among them I have found that they differ from my views on biblical topics.  Do not judge they say or there isn’t just ONE way to Heaven or God would never do that or Why would God do that.  This Comic strip below really expresses what I have found Christianity to resemble a lot like lately in light of the current times. I will elaborate a bit more after you read the strip below:

i'm a C BUT

This comic strip really hit home for me in light of my conversations with not only Christians but non believers as well.  I keep hearing these common themes of ‘it’s personal’ and ‘that’s how I feel’ a lot.  For me, reading scripture and knowing Jesus and my God whom I serve is how I get to know him and learn what He wants from me and how I should live. It is not a feeling or something to be kept quiet.  We are meant to live out loud and shout the good news from the Mountain tops.

The sad situation is that there are so many Christians that believe this way and that needs to change. And that change needs to start with you and me.  To end with scripture that is apropos, I will end with this one.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work – 2 Timothy 3:16,17

Speak OUT

I read Jim Denison’s daily Christian culture email. Today’s was particularly close to home, because it affects us all. I am quoting what he said at the end which is poignant and hits home. We should all be aware!!

Each time I visit the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem, I stop to reflect on this statement from Martin Niemöller, the anti-Nazi German pastor who spent eight years in a concentration camp: “First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.”

Speak OUT!

Love one another

Jesus told us as his second commandment to love one another as we love ourselves. With that, I wanted to share my wisdom of growth in my Christian walk and faith in this post.

There are many ailments that plague our society today. Many of these ailments are pointed out in the scriptures. Morality(or the lack thereof) is the biggest of them in my opinion of what ails our society today. As a Christian living in todays society we are thrust into the spotlight and are put in positions to defend our faith against these ‘ailments’ of society. It has taken me a long time to get to this point in my walk with Christ. My answer to these ailments is several fold. First and foremost, is that we must address everything in love. Second, is that if we hope to change one’s mind, we must be willing to understand and give respect. If we don’t, then we will never reach a lost world that desperately needs Jesus.

I know that these ‘Morality’ issues are hard to address and deal with and that we don’t like to address these issues most of the time. What I am trying to say is this, “Love everyone, no matter what and let God make the change in the person” Our job is to Love as Jesus did, not to judge. Our job is to water the soil, it is God who makes the growth. Our job is to plant the seed, it is God who fertilizes and makes the change, not us.

If Christians can give a listening ear and show respect and love then people will listen to us. If we don’t show that type of behavior to people then they will never listen to us. Show Respect to earn respect. We were given 2 ears and 1 mouth. That’s because we should listen twice as much as we speak, especially when we are trying to get the Good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ out to a dying world.

Crazy times

With all these world events, like Tsunami’s and massive earthquakes, it begs to ask, WHY?

I don’t know if I have the answer or not, but my attempt to answer is coming.

The fact that we live in a fallen world must be acknowledged. For us believers, we know this is true. The state of man and this earth is in a sinful state. The fact that this earth will go on forever is false and so is the fact that we as a race will live forever.

For some of you this might sound surprising. Fear not, though.  God is in control and there is a plan. The plan started before the beginning of time, culminating in the birth of Jesus. This plan was about the salvation of our souls for a fallen and sinful world we live in.

Fear for those of you who do, is unhealthy and is not from God. Fear not, Jesus says, for I have overcome the world. If you have accepted Christ Jesus as your Messiah, your Lord and Savior, good for you. If you haven’t and are reading this, you might be in fear. Fear of the destruction and uncertainty of the current state of the world, with all its famines, nuclear meltdowns, wars and rumors of wars.

For me, my confidence is in Jesus and God Almighty, who has overcome this world. Take comfort in knowing that God has a plan and know that this world we live in is not our home. Our home is the promise of glory in the heavenly realms and the salvation of our souls. If you have accepted Christ, you know that this life is temporary. If you haven’t, I beg of you to seriously consider your salvation and what it means for your entire future.

To accept Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and to help you overcome your fear, please read my other post on just this here.

Also, Read Romans 10:9-10.

Blessings and fear NOT!

Christian Marriage

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh – Genesis 2:24

Marriage in today’s society is pretty diverse.

What has led me to today’s topic is a recent airing on TV of 2 Homosexual men that are married and have a child together.

What I want to address is what Christian Marriage is to us believers, not what the world thinks marriage is.  The comparison is quite drastic.  This is not a bash on anyone person, but a fact posing post about why Christian Marriage is meaningful and important to us believers versus the secular view of what marriage is.

I understand today more than I ever have about this topic and I feel more at peace with it.  I was very incited in the past over gay marriage, but now I understand that what they believe and think marriage is has no correlation to what Jesus and scripture say marriage is and with that I find comfort.

So let’s move on to the facts of Marriage from a Christian perspective:

  1. Marriage is a gift from God and should NOT be taken for granted
  2. Marriage is characterized as that of the relationship between Jesus and The Church – Ephesians 5:29-33
  3. The Catholic Church has deemed it one of the Sacraments as a believer
  4. From the beginning of scripture you find that ‘marriage’ is important – Genesis 2:24
  5. Marriage is between a Man and a Woman – Genesis’ references to Adam and Eve
  6. Pro-creation can only happen between a man and a woman(even though today we have ways around that).  Men still though, produce semen and can’t carry a baby and a woman can only carry a baby and can’t produce semen – Genesis 9:7

In my maturity as a believer, I am finding peace in knowing God’s Word on subjects including this one.  I am not as concerned anymore, though saddened, by today’s state of what marriage is and was defined for centuries as and what it is today defined as.  Yet, with comfort, God’s Word stands firm and true on these areas of marriage and what it means to be a Christian and in a Christian Marriage.

In response to concerns over this topic:  I welcome all thoughts and views, but keep in mind, God said it, not me.  Second, The Bible is clear on Homosexuality in the Old and New Testament.  Also, marriage is pretty clear in the Old and New Testament as well.  Moreover, there are many scripture references I didn’t address in this post and could do so but have chosen not to for the sake of making this an extremely long and drawn out post rather than a clear and concise post that addresses Christian Marriage only.  Again, it’s things that occur around me that jog my thoughts and views on topics and give me the desire through the Holy Spirit to address on my blog.

*Twas the month before Christmas*

*When all through our land,*

*Not a Christian was praying*

*Nor taking a stand.*

*See the PC Police had taken away,*

*The reason for Christmas – no one could say.*

*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*

*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*

*It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say*

* December 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘.*

*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*

*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*

*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*

*Something was changing, something quite odd! *

*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*

*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*

*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*

* At Lowe’s the word Christmas – was nowhere to be found.*

*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears*

*You won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.*

*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*

*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*

*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*

*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !*

*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*

*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*

*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*

* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*

*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*

*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*

*So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’*

*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*

*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*

Not Happy Holiday !*

Please, all Christians join together and

Wish everyone you meet

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the big question?

You know, I just read an article about how in the Miss USA pageant, a woman answers a question about her thoughts on gay marriage.  First of all, why is that question even being asked?  Why is the gay right and movement have to be center stage in a pageant?  Why is it that religion has no room in a pageant, but the far left insist on making gay rights a non-religious movement but a political one.  This puzzles me.  If you don’t want an answer to your question that is different than your views, beliefs or thoughts, DON’T ASK THE QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, this young lady answers, I believe marriage is between a man and a woman.  The MC happens to be an openly gay man that has a blog as well.  Why is he asking this question?  Does he think everyone believes like him only?  Why is it wrong to say what you believe in anymore if it’s different than your view?  There is seriously something wrong when my thoughts and views are different than yours and it’s ‘wrong’!

We all have rights to say and believe what we want, even if it’s different than yours and you know what, I agree with the woman’s answer.  Biblically speaking, it is wrong and I believe what the Bible says.  If you have a problem with that, take it up with God himself, because He said it NOT ME!

We can all agree to disagree.  Even in the Church, we have differences in what we all believe, but the one thing that is NOT up for debate is that God is part of the Trinity-Three in one.  Jesus is the way and the truth and the life.  That is black and white and there is no gray area there, period.  Outside of that, we can see things differently, but believing in Jesus as God’s only son and that He is the way to Heaven is not optional or up for debate.

I have friends in the church that have turned from homosexuality and are married now to a woman and believe in Jesus.  No one is perfect and we all fall short of the glory of God, including myself.  I am not casting the first stone, and we all will be held accountable for what we do, say and live when we leave this earth.

December 1, 2008

Our worship leader stated yesterday in our contemporary service that the difference between religion and Christianity is that religion is Man reaching out to God and Christianity is God reaching out to Man.

I thought this was very profound and I’m sure some of you have heard this before.  I really like this statement, because my initial reaction is Jesus is the difference.  He is and that’s true, but the wording this way is a great way to share the Gospel(The Good News) with a lost world.

Encourage someone today!
