Baalbeck


Baalbeck, in the fertile Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, originated as a place of worship to Baal, the Phoenician Sun God, and was called Heliopolis by the Greeks.  Later the Romans selected it as the site of great religious temples.  The ruins are exquisitely detailed and monumental in scale.
