Financial Crisis

I can’t ignore our current market crisis going on in our country and how the Dow Jones and Wall Street are taking a major nose dive.  I feel like most Americans, I believe, upset!

Why, why and why is what I think we’re all asking.  How can our government allow this to happen?  How come we are all being betrayed by the financial markets and no matter how ‘safe’ the ‘experts’ say to invest our money(s) and diversify, when everyone lost in the 777 point decline yesterday.  Which wasn’t the most percentage wise loss ever, but was the most points ever!  With that, nothing is safe!

I like rosemary’s thoughts on this topic and you can check it out for yourself here.  The emergency bailout plan seems to be something that has little oversight and a blank check.  I don’t like that and I don’t like that all these CEO’s are walking away with Millions in their pockets, while we all have to pay for their negligence!!!

No one said things are fair or that life or finances are fair.  Maybe this is God’s way of saying, hey I’m bigger than your finances and stock market fears!  I’m bigger than these problems and can help you in ALL of your times of need.  Including this one.  I think we should focus more on Him and less on our money fears is what I hear Him saying.  I prayed yesterday for God to tell me if I should ‘jump ship’ on my investments or not.  I didn’t really get a clear answer, but I did hear Him say, “Look to me and not on your worries or concerns over financial matters…I will take care of you”

So, with that said, for me, I need to spend more time focusing on Him and not upon my worries because I know where my treasures are and they sure are not on earthly things.   The hard part is remembering that and that is part of being human and a Christian.

christian films

In order for us to see quality movies in the future, we need to support Christian films being made today.  One movie in particular that is currently featured at your local movie house is Fireproof.  A film featuring actor Kirk Cameron, who is a Christian.  If you didn’t know that already…he is also the same guy from the TV show Growing Pains.

Referenced recently was this quote from Rotten Tomatoes on the movies recent weekend success:

Coming from seemingly out of nowhere and debuting in fourth place was the Kirk Cameron drama Fireproof. The film, which tells the story of a firefighter who must find a way to save his marriage, brought in an estimated $6.5M from only 839 screens for a strong average of $7,764, second highest in the top ten. The film has been heavily promoted to Christian groups and proves once again that religious-themed films can bring in an audience.

So take your better half and go see this movie and support Christian Films being made today!

NFL

I am loving that the NFL’s Football season is in full swing.  I have to say that living in Houston, watching the Houston Texans NFL football is pretty painful!!  Unfortunately, my home town in L.A. doesn’t even have a professional football, which is incredible being that it is one of the biggest markets in the states.

Let’s hope the Houston Texans can win a game sometime soon or even this season?!?!?!

control

That which you give into, controls you.

I have thought about that statement above for a few days.  Does that mean for the good and the bad?  Because initially I thought about the bad stuff, but then I thought, well what about the good stuff as well?

If we reap what we sow…then what are we sowing and reaping?  What are you receiving in your life lately?  Are you receiving love and praise and blessings?  or are you receiving pain, strife, stress and trouble?

I believe there is a correlation to this.  I understand bad circumstances happen to everyone, but I’m speaking on a larger scale.  That scale of which is your everyday for the past month.  Have you been able to see and appreciate the good in your life and bless others with it?  Or are you pessimistic about everything you see on the street and in your life and hoarding your blessings?  Do you recognize that you are?

Let’s pray that God will help us make that change:

Father, I praise you first and foremost.  I ask Lord that you will guide me in this day and help me be a blessing to others as you are a blessing to me.  Help me to share and give love and recognize the good in others.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Baalbeck

Baalbeck, in the fertile Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, originated as a place of worship to Baal, the Phoenician Sun God, and was called Heliopolis by the Greeks.  Later the Romans selected it as the site of great religious temples.  The ruins are exquisitely detailed and monumental in scale.

see you at the pole

Is today, 9/24/2008.   There is an official see you at the pole site as well.  It happens once a year at the beginning of every new school year.  It’ all about praying and asking God for His blessings on the new school year and also sharing Christ with others in your schools.  It’s more than that as well, that is just a portion of what it is and what it continues to grow to be.  SYATP is now an International event that brings thousands of students to their flag poles at their schools and allows them to pray to God, with each student taking a turn to pray.  Even Teachers have gotten involved and meet up at the pole as well.  How awesome is that!

The scripture this year is from 1 Samuel 3:10 “Speak, for your servant is listening”  What a great scripture this is from as well. In a time of Israel’s history when King Saul was in power, God speaks to a young boy and calls for him to go and make a way for the future King in David.  That’s of course the short and skinny, but powerful scripture none the less.

Let’s all spend time with Christ today and pray for His blessings and protection on all our schools around the world!

good things

I was watching football today and noticed that in a commercial that David Garrard(QB for Jacksonville Jaguars) was speaking about Crohn’s disease.  He stated that he had the disease and that every time he scores this season, donations will be made to help fight the disease here.  I didn’t know he has Crohn’s, like I do and that really hit me.  What a great spoke person for the disease and for David to do good for something that has plagued him in his life, as it has mine.

Let’s use our sicknesses, ailments, issues, diseases and problems to do good for our world and help to improve it!

in times of need

Am I my brother’s keeper?  Yes I am.  That should be our answer when we go out to serve or think about serving.  We should be in the field helping and giving and sharing.

When asked that question…what is your answer?

what a shame!

This just in, another sport figure is caught cursing the great country that they live in and that makes them wealthy and that blesses them with the freedoms that they enjoy currently.  Josh Howard, a NBA basketball figure, is caught blaspheming the national anthem here.

I don’t normally like to post stuff like this, but I love the Great USA and what this country has done for me and my family and for a young man to talk like this is just outrageous.  This is a big problem we have with young America today.  They think that they ‘deserve’ what they have and then bite the hand that feeds them.  Let’s hope Josh learns a valuable lesson from this as he begins to feel the backlash from the people that pay his salary.

So sad, the state of our culture today.  This could be the beginning of our demise here in the US.  The rights we feel owed, yet don’t want to fight for.  The rights we feel owed, yet don’t want to pay taxes or help the poor or the needy.

Let’s make the change, starting with the person in the mirror!
