happy ash wednesday

Hope you go to church tonight/today and if your church doesn’t celebrate Ash Wednesday, find one around you that does. It’s a great tradition and the beginning of the Lenten Season. Six weeks from now approximately, we will be celebrating Christ’s betrayal, crucifixion and most importantly His Resurrection. I do say celebrate, because in the midst of his betrayal and crucifixion and the pain of that, He rose again and died for us and defeated death so that we may live, for every one of us. Praise Him forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be Blessed!
forgiveness

This is a powerful story of a young lady that survived genocide in her home country of Rwanda. That is where Tutsi’s hate Hutu’s and vice versa. It reminds me of the former Yugoslavia, where just because of the fact you are from a different tribe or region of your same country, you hate each other. That’s a really horrible and sad thought. It likens days of N.Ireland and Ireland or our own US during the Civil War. How sad it is that we hate based on color of skin or because someone is different than you.
I believe in the beauty of ALL and how boring would it be if we were all the same? Life would not have color or beauty if we were all the same. If you look at the fish of the sea, they are all different in sizes and color…how beautiful is that? The same goes for us humans, we are all different and thank God we are! Let’s celebrate that God given differences and not hate, but LOVE! Let’s forgive, even when we it hurts.

While women weep, as they do now, I’ll fight;
While children go hungry, as they do now, I’ll fight;
While men go to prison, in and out, as they do now, I’ll fight;
While there is a drunkard left,
While there is a poor girl lost upon the streets,
While there remains one dark soul without the light of God,
I’ll fight, I’ll fight to the very end.WILLIAM BOOTH, FOUNDER OF THE SALVATION ARMY
black history month

I want to acknowledge Black History Month for February. I also want to highlight a Brother in Christ who is a solid Christian, pastor Tony Evans. His words are inspiring and powerful. They hit home and he brings the truth every time he speaks. Don’t get turned off by his loud voice at first, if you haven’t heard him before, because he builds up to his point and hits you right in the center of your soul. What a powerful speaker and follower of Christ, is Tony Evans.
A quote I remember from him, and this is paraphrased, but something like this, “The Bible is like the ocean, it’s as deep as you want to go and never be full and it’s as shallow as you want to be and not drown.”

Watching the Academy Awards last night, I really like the award given to Jerry Lewis for the Humanitarian Award. I think he deserved it, even though doing good like he does, as he acknowledged, isn’t what he did it for. He is a huge Muscular Dystrophy supporter and has been for over 50+ years. No matter how you feel about him, you must acknowledge the light that he has given to this horrible disease and know that what he’s done has brought attention to the cause and has helped raise a lot of money for the research and cure of this disease.
Congratulations Jerry Lewis and God Bless You!

I went tonight with a bunch of guy friends from church tonight to the Houston Aeros game. We won in a shootout 2-1, over the Iowa Chops (what a name-chops) and there was all the drama and a fight occurred as well. It was a lot of fun and good guy hang out time too. It’s been a nice weekend so far and I’m looking forward to tomorrow to take the day of ‘rest’
day of completion?
February 18, 2009 at 6:28 pm | In trust | 1 CommentTags: day of completion, kingdom, make a difference, philippians 1:6, promises, trust, will
If there are so many promises in the Bible and you believe them, do you believe this one, “6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
My interpretation of this is that God isn’t finished with me yet. That He has a lot to do in me until Jesus returns or I leave this earth. That there is so much good I have left to do and that His work in me is still be perfected and completed in me. That He’s using me to accomplish His will here on earth. The question then I have is…what am I doing right now for His kingdom come, His will be done? Not what I did yesterday or might do tomorrow, but right now.
Let’s plan on making a difference for His kingdom here on earth this year, today, now… not making MY kingdom here on earth. That’s a hard one, because I’m concerned about building financial security, about my future and yet this is all passing right? Then I should be more concerned about His will and not so much mine, because He promises that He will take care of me! Do I trust that? Do you? and yes I do!
The other aspect of this scripture verse is Him making me more of a disciple as well and not just wanting me to do things for His kingdom, but doing it for the ‘right’ reasons and the motivation is with a pure heart!
Blessings!
gas prices

Something I just learned and thought that all of us, being public users of gasoline, should be aware of this:
In May 2002, the FTC announced a project to monitor wholesale and retail prices of gasoline in an effort to identify possible anti-competitive activities and determine whether a law enforcement investigation would be warranted. Today, this project tracks retail gasoline and diesel prices in some 360 cities across the nation and wholesale (terminal rack) prices in 20 major urban areas. The FTC’s Bureau of Economics staff receives daily data from the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), a private data collection company. Staff receives information weekly from the Department of Energy’s public “Gas Price Hot-line,” and also reviews other relevant information that might be reported to the FTC directly by the public or by other federal or state government entities. An econometric model is used to determine whether current retail and wholesale prices each week are anomalous in comparison with historical data.
The Monitoring Project alerts FTC staff to unusual changes in gasoline and diesel prices so that further inquiry can be undertaken expeditiously. When price increases do not appear to result from market-driven causes, staff consults with the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy. FTC staff also contacts the offices of the appropriate state Attorneys General to discuss the anomaly and appropriate potential actions, including the opening of an investigation.
This came from the FTC website and I think that this is a good thing. To report price increases in your area, contact the FTC at their website and report it!
proverbs 31

In a conversation recently, a friend of mine told me that there isn’t anymore proverbs 31 women out there. Do you all agree with that? Read Proverbs 31 and then tell me your thoughts on this…I’m very curious. Let me clarify that the quote was more like, “there aren’t any pvbs 31 women that do all the things that are stated in there, but do some of the things stated in pvbs 31.”
I have officially completed my reading of the Book of Proverbs as well. It was a very slow, morning devotional read for me and I enjoyed it. This is about the 10th time I have read it thoroughly as well.
Have a Great Day, especially if your off work today enjoying this President’s Day Holiday.(I am working
