XLII

A full season’s worth of football and it comes down to 1 game. The Superbowl. The XLII in English means 42. Just in case you were curious
So, I’m not a big fan of either team really. Boston vs. NY. Brady vs. the ‘other’ Manning brother. Lot’s of Superbowl hype to go around, but I’m not that excited about the game too much. I hope it’s a good one and close, but I don’t really want to see New England go 18-0/undefeated, personally. How about you?
Looking forward to some cool commercials more this year, since my heart isn’t behind either team. An estimated $2.7 million for a 30-second commercial slot…WOW!!! The commercials better be real good!
Too bad the season is ‘almost’ over
Walk #45_1

I am going to chronicle my new team of men for Walk #45 here in the Houston North Emmaus Community. Our first team mtg will be this Saturday, followed by a gathering. The gatherings are fun because it’s pot-luck style. You get a whole bunch of different types of foods. Chicken and the ‘fried’ kind tend to be popular.
So, Saturday is team training for a couple of hours and then we meet again about every 2 weeks for a total of about 5 full day team mtgs. The weekend for the Walk #45 is April 17-20. I am very excited about it and serving on a God team that will bring Him glory! I will post afterwards about any experiences and thoughts I have/get/observe.
Another Awesome thing about that weekend in April is that it will be my 10 year ‘official’ anniversary of my being a Christian on the 19th and my Baptism.
Do you think God had a plan with my life when He looked at it?

More prayers from “My Daily Prayer Book”
Lord, inspire us today with the qualities of good leadership. Give us insight to make wise decisions, integrity to face the truth, courage to make difficult choices and compassion for the needs of others. Make us a model of justice and honor to the world, and let us never forget that our job is to serve, both You and others.
Amen.

This is a contemporary prayer from “My Daily Prayer Book”
O, mighty Lord, I pray that You will be my shield as I do battle against ignorance, cruelty and injustice. Through your unending love, I pray that you will grant me goodness and steadfastness, so that I might lead others to do Your will and glorify Your name.
Amen.
10 years
January 28, 2008 at 10:21 am | In 10 years | 2 CommentsTags: 10 years, baptism, christian, decade
On April 19th of 1998, I was baptised. That day officially marked my acceptance of Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. What a beautiful day that was for me as well. I don’t think I washed my hair for like 2 days after that(it wasn’t a dunking, like the Baptists do, but a sprinkling over the head, knelt down) The joy of this total conversion was awing for me. I was in such a ‘lost’ place for most of my life until that day. I had felt literal emptiness inside me for years. I had tried to fill it with ‘worldly’ things, but nothing seemed to satisfy the craving. After that day, though, I began a new life and a fresh start with Christ Jesus.
What’s amazing to me is that I will have walked now with Him for a decade. I can’t believe it! I’m really excited, you know. It’s like a real milestone for me. One of the things that really hit me was how fast time has passed since my conversion. 10 years doing anything for me is a milestone!
I began so many new and great things that year as well. It seems that God does have a plan for me and for everyone. It’s just a matter of accepting what He has in store for you and receiving it with open arms, knowing that our Abba Father know what’s best. We just have to be obedient to Him and what He wants from us. To love mercy, act justly and walk humbly with our God. I know it seems harder than it reads, but it is true. Anytime I have done my own thing, it’s never been quite good. Whenever I do something that God would be proud of and say that was good, it seems to be blessed and have long-lasting positive effects. That’s been my experience in 10 short years of walking with the Lord.
”What a blessing it has been to walk with you Lord Jesus. I’m glad that you called me from out of the slimy pit and miry clay that I was in and set my feet upon your rock of solid ground and have established my ways. I’m grateful that you have called me into your Kingdom and I continuously give you praise for all that you are and do. Thank you Jesus for 10 years. I look forward to many more with you. Amen.”
a good word

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and Love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:30-31
Why is this a good word you ask? Well, I’m glad you did ask.
I believe what Jesus himself spoke, and the words He spoke. When He said these words above, He also said that all of the 10 commandments and all of the 613 total laws that were in the Old Testament were summed up in the statement above. He also said that there is no commandment greater than these.
When Jesus Himself says something as powerful and matter of fact as this, you better pay attention.
In my daily life I find that the trenches is where the battle is. The monotony of days that go by, is where were tested. Are we sharing the love to others and loving God whole-heartily is the question. The positive thing about this question is that even though we fail and not love our neighbor and even though we fail and not love God the way we ought to. That God is constant, the same yesterday, today and forever. He doesn’t change and neither does His love for us. He will pick us back up and set our feet on solid ground again and give us another opportunity to love again. He will continue to test us and try us and refine us like a foundry does. Purification is this process, and even though it’s not fun, it creates a stronger you and me.
I encourage you today to continue to fight the good fight and keep your focus on Him, the author and perfecter of our faith. The one who is able to do more than we can ever ask or imagine.
blessings!
protest
January 22, 2008 at 3:58 pm | In protest | 4 CommentsTags: 10 commandments, christian, judeo-christian, protest, unity
I want to officially protest here on my blog. It seems there are many venues to do such a thing and I think this is the Best one that I can think of. I’m also going to write this down in my “101 things to do before I die” check box under “Protest or Strike in the name of something you believe in”
What I’m concerned about is the direction of our country. The very foundation and principles of our country were built on Judeo-Christian beliefs. With that said, why is it that the 10 commandments are being removed from our courts around the nation. Why is it that the word “God” is trying to be taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance. The statistics of those who say they believe in “God” are astounding. Some 85% of Americans say they are Christian. So, if that stat is true, then why the big issues with the 10 Commandments and the Pledge of Allegiance?
It seems that the ‘few’ are making it ever difficult for the masses. I think this has always been the case in world history and I presume the same goes for modern day issues.
There must be some humanity in the fact that the 10 Commandments are positive, good, moral and just plain right! Our consciences say so! Then why the removal of them from our courts? If we as a people abide more in the 10 Commandments found in Exodus 20 and/or in Jesus’ words, “to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:30-31, wouldn’t we be a better nation for it? Wouldn’t we see positivity and goodness and love expound? I think so.
We, as Christians, need to speak up on all types of issues that plague our society. We need to do it properly though and not in an unloving fashion. Jesus flipped over a table in anger, but never sinned. Can we make our voice heard and not sin? Of course we can. I’m doing it now. Be vocal my fellow believers! Share your heart and mind and pray for our great country, the United States of America. Let’s stand united as one body and make our voice heard. Let’s not allow the ‘few’ to ruin it for the masses.
I remember when Congress, following the 9/11 attacks, stood together as one. Democrat and Republican, Black and White, ALL with ONE voice in solidarity, singing the national anthem. That’s the vision of who we are as a nation that I like to see, UNITED!
prayer

How important is prayer in your life? Do you find it something that is a must or a “when I have time” type of thing? I think your attitude towards prayer says alot about you and your view on your spiritual walk and your closeness to God.
For me, prayer has been very important. I pray all the time to God. I throw up prayers all day long to Him. I pray first thing in the morning, during the day and before I go to bed. I pray before meals & snacks. I pray for people and their needs and concerns. I pray with people and in groups of people.
There isn’t a wrong time to pray nor is there such thing as a “bad” prayer. The point is that your carrying on a relationship with God Almighty. The creator of the world, the universe. The creator of YOU & ME!! Why wouldn’t you pray and build a better and stronger relationship with your Abba Father.
I love to pray, really. I enjoy it. I find that it helps me in every time and situation. I believe that the blessings from those prayers will shower me and my friends and family for years to come and on and on! There aren’t enough hours and time in the day to not pray. Paul himself says several times in the New Testament to pray. He exhorts us to “Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 If Paul says that, how much more should we?
Jesus prayed continually to His Father in Heaven. We are to emulate Christ in our life and in our coming and going. Thus, we should pray as well, like Jesus did. I don’t think we should look to others and see if they are a better prayer-er than we are. It is something that comes from your heart and is true and pure and honest and one of the most beautiful things that we as His children can do. So, pray now and pray for me and for your family and friends. Pray for the body of Christ around the world. Pray for guidance and direction in your life. Pray for wisdom. Pray for your spouse or your future spouse. Pray for your health and be thankful for it as well. Pray the Word and personalize it-start with the Psalms.
Like Nike says “Just DO IT!”

I have worked several Walks now in the Houston North Emmaus Community. I was actually on the 1st ‘new’ Walk for the newly arranged HNEC after the 4 communities in Houston separated into their own communities. It’s been a true pleasure to work these walks since going on my original walk back in 2000. I have also worked/served on many other walks as well as serving on teams for Chrysalis too.
I have always found that whatever you give to GOD in service to Him, that you get back 10 fold what you put in. That is never more evident than it is when serving on an Emmaus Team. What a joy it is to see pilgrims(1st timers) faces after they have just come back from candlelight or after they start understanding what the weekend is really about. For this reason alone, it’s enough to make you come back and keep serving. Another reason is, you remember what it was like for you on your first Walk and remember the people that served you and how they were so unselfishly giving of themselves. How Awesome it is when we serve and give from our heart.
Being unselfish is such a foreign idea in today’s society and I think that’s what makes Emmaus so unique. That there is an environment that fosters just this idea. That it’s not about you, but about them. It reminds of the book by Rick Warren “Purpose Driven Life” In the book, the first line in it says “It’s not about YOU” What a way to start off a book, huh?
